Sky+ app update gives iPhone remote control

A handy new update to the Sky+ app now lets you use your iPhone or iPod touch as a remote control.
You'll need to have your Sky+ box and iPhone or iPod connected to the same Wi-Fi network to change channels, pause, play and rewind TV and set up or delete recordings on the box.
The iPad was already capable of controlling Sky+ in real time but the other iOS devices were languishing in administrative control only.
So while you could arrange recordings from afar on the Apple handset, you were stuck using the old-fashioned remote control to actually change channels. Nightmare.

Popularity

The Sky+ app has proven popular with the broadcaster's customers; it has been downloaded over 5 million times since it launched in 2009, with around 1.2 million people using it each month.
This doesn't surprise us all that much, given that Sky is a premium broadcasting service and Apple's iDevices are premium mobile devices.
No word yet on when the Android equivalents will get the same remote control functionality, although Sky tells us that it hopes to bring the features to Android handsets "in the coming months".

iOS 7: 12 things we want to see

The latest major update for Apple's mobile devices, the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, was mostly hit, but with a Maps-shaped miss.
Lots of people were rightly angry about Apple ditching Google data, but beyond that mis-step there were things to like: a more useful Siri (App launching plus the recognition that a world exists outside of the USA), shared Photo Streams, handy Phone app controls such as 'send to voicemail', and major improvements to Mail, Safari, accessibility and the Camera app.
But regardless of what Apple achieves, it's never really enough. As soon as you've sat there playing with the latest iOS, ideas pop into your head regarding what you'd like to see next. This article explores a dozen of the features we're clamouring to see in iOS 7. (And by 'clamouring', we of course mean 'asking really nicely'. C'mon, Mr Cook - pretty please?)

1. Hide Apple apps

Pretty much everyone we know with an Apple device has a folder entitled 'Apple'. This isn't filled with must-have apps from the geniuses at Cupertino, but all the junk Apple installs that you can't get rid off. To be fair, what each individual considers junk is different, and these apps—Compass, Stocks, Voice Memos, Passbook, and so on—have their fans; but is it too much to ask for a switch in Settings that will hide those we don't use?

2. Better app management

Change for change's sake is rarely a good thing. Recognition is key to satisfying experiences with technology. That's why we're not yelling at Apple to change how iOS home screens work. What we would like to see is improvements to app management: more screens; by default saving app data on delete; and an alphabetical list of installed apps, perhaps accessible from Spotlight.

3. Change app defaults

We're pretty certain this request would be met with wide-eyes from Apple CEO Tim Cook, swiftly followed by a full twenty minutes of belly laughing, but we want the ability to use non-default apps for important things like email and calendaring. Apple's own apps would remain the defaults, but you should also be able to pick your own in Settings.

4. Provide a guest account

It's extremely unlikely that Apple's ever going to enable multiple user accounts on iOS devices—they are, after all, designed as extremely personal computers. What is perhaps more realistic is some kind of guest account you could switch to when handing your device over to someone for a short while; something similar already exists on the Mac in OS X.

5. Change Siri's voice

OS X is blessed with dozens of high-quality voices that witter away to you in various dulcet tones. By contrast, Siri is Siri. In the US, you get a slightly robotic woman; in the UK, Siri's that bloke who did The Weakest Link for a decade. It'd be great if you could choose the voice your device uses to speak. (Possible exception: Yoda voice.)

6. Provide App Store demos

Apps and games might be cheap, but that doesn't figure cheapskates into the equation. Too often, people are unwilling to risk 69p on the latest release, forcing devs into irritating freemium models or making them clutter up the App Store with 'lite' versions of their output. Apple should just allow demos: 24 hours from first launch and then you buy or the app won't run. Boom.

7. Power up 'Do Not Disturb'

Fed up of getting woken up in the middle of the night by the marketing efforts of [redacted, but quite possibly a well-known mobile network] or Game Center fanfares? Do Not Disturb is a great feature that enables you to time when your phone will quit bugging you. But you can define only a single schedule, and we want to see alternative options for weekends.

8. Make locking location-aware

Locking is a great thing on iOS devices, making it at least a little harder for some scallywag to get at your data if they pinch your shiny Apple joy. But it could be more intelligent, locking on a location-aware basis, and not when you're, say, happily sitting at home on the sofa.

9. Improve the lock screen

There's something to be said for Apple's minimalism regarding the iOS lock screen, and it's mostly that it's too minimal. We're not sure we want to see Android-style widgets sprayed everywhere, but a little more functionality wouldn't go amiss. For example, artwork from a currently playing song is displayed on the lock screen, but there are no controls for pausing or skipping to the next track, until you double-press Home, which isn't hugely discoverable. And beyond notifications, nothing else shows up there at all.

10 Cut all iTunes ties

In recent years, Apple's made great leaps away from iTunes, and you can technically get away with never using the monstrous jukebox. However, there's still no way to easily get your existing music collection nor your photographs on to your device, and there should be. (Alas, with Apple wanting to push iTunes Match and the iTunes Store, there almost certainly never will be for the first of those.)

11. Make more icons dynamic

We're hesitant at arguing Apple's home screen icons should be more like Windows 8 tiles, but there's something to be said for dynamic updates when such things work well. With iOS, you get update badges and a live calendar. It'd be nice at the least if Apple made its own Clock and Weather icons dynamic.

12. Enable cross-platform installs

On a device, you now often see iOS-style banners on websites that when tapped take you right to the equivalent App Store app. But if you're browsing elsewhere, you have to email yourself a reminder and then install later. How good would it be if you were surfing on your PC, saw a great app and could install it across your devices without going near them, nor even to iTunes?

New ipads coming ?

Apple rumors never rest. Ever.
In the recent past we’ve been told something new is coming— from Digitimes — talk of a smaller sized ipad at just under 9″ inches and a potential market date of early 2012. The idea of a small iPad from Apple is a somewhat hard to fathom. Apple already said they think their pad is the right size. Period. And, we’re Apple. All knowing, and powerful, etc.

But recently,  Digitimes recanted from its recent ipad announcement with a refreshed note: Forget the small ipad: Apple will announce 2 fresh Retina-type iPads to serve the luxury segment, while the current iPad will do battle with the kindle and nook.
Apple’s products are often a bit more expensive than the competitors, but Apple likes to battle in accordance. Compare all of the different options Apple has with the ipads, iphone, ipods etc.

Digitimes claims that the new models will stay with Apple’s 9.7-inch screen, but with an improved resolution and better light bars. And if Digitimes can be believed, Sharp is now handling the panel supply, along with LG  and Samsung.
Said source has also touched on some new iPad batteries, saying that they should be roughly at the level of 13,000-14,000 mAh. And if even more: Digitimes says they know the launch date: The Iworld Conference in January, 2012.
Sure, this is quite a large sum of data and I’d bet that it’s not all perfect and 100% accurate. That being said, improved ipads to fit the market do make sense. The Kindle Fire is killing the market at it’s current price, and Apple is always dedicated to owning the market for it’s products. But Apple isn’t going to copy anyone any time soon.
The true war wager will be a price dump due to the recent economy, and from what we’ve seen occur with the iPhone 4 in the past it wouldn’t be shocking to witness the  iPad drop a few coins.
In order to battle with the $200 Kindle Fire, it’d might need to.

Face recognition is coming

And you thought your face was just for your identity..now it might be for security too, if Apple Inc. has anything to say about it. Now it might allow you to access your Apple products, such as iphone, ipod,  iPad etc. An Apple patent app released recently tells of a facial comparison system that requires small computational energy, and works in most light conditions conveniently.

The system works by showing a recent image of your cute face to a profile made using sections of the human face, such as eyes and nose etc. It basically will take a snapshot and compare in the database. It is just an app, so it won’t be part of the actuial iOS anytime in the near future.

Noteworthy::  Apple beat Google and Motorola to the punch  (Android) with this patent application a long time ago.

The iPhone 4S Is Finally Cleared For Launch In Mainland China

Here in the States we’ve been chatting it up with Siri on the iPhone 4S for months, but the folks over in mainland China — the biggest mobile market in the world, mind you — have yet to hear that 42 is the meaning of life. The 4S launched in Hong Kong just last month, and since then we’ve heard that it would show up on the mainland in December.
People’s Daily is now reporting that a phone with the model number A1431 has passed the final hurdle in its Chinese certification. That’s the same model number that Apple used to get a network entry permit for the 4S from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on December 6, so all signs point to iPhone.
Considering the timeline, that means the iPhone 4S will likely launch in China before the Chinese New Year on January 23, which is the equivalent of our Black Friday.
Seeing that the iPhone is basically a smash hit in China — over 10 million iPhones are in use on China Mobile’s network (even though it isn’t an official iPhone carrier) — Apple will likely be breaking even more records with the iPhone 4S come 2012. Especially if the alleged talks between China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile carrier, and Apple lead to something a bit more official.

iPad 3 Release Date & Features – Sizzling Rumors

An increasing number of rumors have begun springing up – expediting iPad 3 release date (from an earlier rumor of late summer 2012 to early March 2012). Could that be true?
A lot of factors have changed right now. A lot of guesstimate material comes from manufacturers and leaks from those involved in making the components of the iPad 3. A recent Wall Street Journal report mentioned some source from the supply chain claiming that Apple has ordered about a million or so components to be made (it’s mostly the displays or the panels). Another report says that a market analyst suggests iPad 3 would be out by the end of March 2012 – or sooner – and asked investors to invest accordingly.

None of the info is final – but it increases the amount of speculation on iPad 3 release date.
For starters, iPad 3 release date would and should be beyond March 2012 – considering the fact that it would be strategically positive for Apple. The iPad 3 has been in the news ever since the iPad 2 – and more so in recent times after numerous references to the device were found hidden in the codes of iOS 5.1 beta release.
iPad 3 features have been rumored to be widely based on the display features and the processor.
First off, the A6 processor is rumored to be on board. The A6 processor – which is widely believed to incorporate several changes to the architecture and performance – has been called for as a need considering the various features and enhancements the devices will contain. The iPhone 4S is a standing proof for that. Also, besides this, the processor is required because of several additions to the iPad 3 specs in software and apps.
The other area of interest is the iPad display.
Quite a lot of people seem to think that the iPad 3 will surely have a very powerful display – with almost twice the resolution of iPad 2. That would put the iPad 3 display resolution at 2048×1536 px – and because the dual-LED light problem was fixed in the design, the physical dimensions of the iPad 3 are unchanged from the predecessor. This means, Retina Display – a prominent feature of iPhone 4S – comes to iPad 3 too.
Update (24th Dceember 2011): Report sugests that Apple is Pushing to Introduce iPad 3 on February 24th, Steve Jobs’  Birthday.

Update (1st July 2011): Apple is planning to gear up iPad 2 shipments for the third quarter of this year. Does this mean we are not going to see iPad 3 this year? Find out more.
Update (2nd June 2011): According to DigiTimes, iPad 3 release date should be scheduled to somewhere in 2012. However, Apple has already started certifying process of components for the iPad 3. Here is you will detailed update on iPad 3 release date.
iPad 3 Features & Specs Expectation
  • Retina Display: People were expecting a retina display with the iPad 2; but the iPad disappointed them with the same display of the previous iPad. Now followers are waiting for an iPad 3 with a retina display. There is a rumor that the iPad 3 may offer a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels.
  • SD Card Slot: People are expecting a revolution in Apple iPad 3 with an SD card slot. Hopefully Apple may introduce SD card slot with the third generation iPad.
  • Improved HDMI: Yes iPad 2 also supports HDMI playback but you need to have Apple digital AV adapter, and that comes at an additional cost of $39. So it is much expected from iPad 3 to have an HDMI port that eliminates additional requirement of the HDMI cable.
  • Camera Flash: A camera with flash is a much-waited feature of the iPad; people were expecting iPad 2 to have camera flash; now we would be wondering if iPad 3 will have camera with flash.
  • Thunderbolt: The iPad 3 may have a Thunderbolt port. That will offer power, video and data connectivity using the same connector at lightning speed.
  • Wireless Synchronize: People are expecting iPad 3 to offer wireless sync of content rather than the traditional wired connectivity.

7-Inch iPad Not Coming Next Year, Cheaper iPad 2 Instead of iPad Mini?

The world has recently viewed the launch of several 7 inch tablets from various companies of the world, the same was also expected from Apple this year and as most of the experts believed that Apple too was prepared for the launch of the same, but recently there has been a shift in the plans of Apple as the company believes in setting up trends rather following trends from any other companies.

The latest sensation from Apple is the iPad mini which is a smaller version of the iPad and is expected to be launched by Apple at a lower price to cover the lower segment in the market. In such context, Blair had to state that the 7 inch iPad moreover was not on the cards for Apple in recent launches however, the glimpse for iPad mini was reflected in his conversation.“One naturally thinks that a 7-inch screen would offer 70 per cent of the benefits of a 10-inch screen,” Jobs said during a 2010 earnings call. “Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. … The reason we [won't] make a 7-inch tablet isn’t because we don’t want to hit [a lower] price point, it’s because we think the screen is too small to express the software. As the software driven company, we think about the software strategies first.”
It is not a mystery that Apple has been secretly working on the 7 inch iPad too, but at this point of time the same looks to be a far sighted approach as it now aims for the lower range market. This iPad Mini is moreover a cheap iPad 2 which shall range in between $ 249- $ 499, providing the lower segment of the market to have a share of its quality. Another reason can also be that Apple is looking forward to build something new and extraordinary as usual for which the 7 inch iPad has been put to halt in the recent time and instead the access of mini iPad is being access.
In words of Blair,“We believe Apple is highly likely to keep the iPad 2 on the production line after the launch of iPad 3 and offer it at a lower price point in an effort to address demand at the mid-tier, what we view as the $249 to $499 range. We believe iPad 2′s price could drop to the $349 to $399 range with Apple offering a single 16GB model.”
This however ensures that iPad mini release date is very short form the current date. The model is expected to be a single 16 GB model which shall cater the needs of the people who mainly belong to the student and small businessmen section. The iPad Mini is expected to hit the markets in upcoming April- May.

iPhone 5′s Chip to be Made in Texas?

We all know the fact that Apple has been relying on its secret Asian manufacturers when it comes to production and assembly of its popular gadgets, but as it turns out, it looks like some important parts of the iPad and iPhone are actually made closer than anyone would have been expecting.
So what does closer to home actually mean? Well, the components are being manufactured by a $3.6 billion facility located in Austin, Texas. It seems that the A5 processor, the component responsible for all the actions of the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 is the piece built in USA.
And surprise, surprise, who do you think is assembling this major parts? Well, it’s Apple’s sworn enemy, with whom it has been battling in courts around the world – Samsung. The A5 processor is built in a newly constructed $3.6 billion non-memory chip production line that reached full production in early December. Rumor has it, that Samsung started shipping from Austin this year.

When asked, Apple didn’t want to make any comments, on account that it’s not “polite” to reveal information about its business with suppliers. Samsung didn’t break the trust, and also declined to comment about any details of the chips that are being developed in Austin.
Companies seem to be attracted to Austin because of the big numbers of educated individuals the University of Texas is putting out on the market. Samsung added about 1,100 jobs which produce about 40,000 silicon wafers every month. Plus another 2,400 employees in Austin who work in its NAND flash memory factory by the logic chip factory. It seems the Korean company hasn’t wasted any time. The factory dates back from 1996.

NFC iPhone 5 Closer to Reality

A while ago, there was a lot of buzz over the Internet about Apple’s plans related to what we know now as iPhone 4S. Some of the rumors pointed in the direction of Near Field Technology (NFC) but the most prudent analysts believed that there was not the right time for Apple to integrate in its iPhones a technology for which the market wasn’t ready. However, next year might be the right time to see an iPhone 5 with NFC support. Such a situation would not only be probable, but very close to a certainty.
DigiTimes, the Taiwanese technology website that is always quoting anonymous sources from inside Apple’s supply chain, suggests that Apple has in the works a next generation iPhone that integrates NFC technology. Not only that, but according to DigiTimes, if Apple would somehow miss this trend it would be a serious strategic error for the Cupertino based company.

Competitors like Samsung Electronics, HTC, Nokia and RIM already released top end smartphones featuring NFC technology. Moreover, powerful carriers from around the world, including AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Orange, Vodafone, Telefonica, Deutsche Telekom, Korea Telecom, Bharti Airtel, China Mobile and China United Network Communications, will bring this technology to the main stream very soon. Currently, only 10% of the smartphones enable NFC but, according to DigiTimes predictions, in the next two years more than half of the smartphones on the market will adopt the technology.
Apple is not expected to take the back seat allowing the competitors to get so much ahead. Particularly when Apple is sitting on a gold mine that could give a serious competitive edge to an e-payment application for an NFC enabled iPhone. Just think of those 200 million iTunes accounts with credit card information that Apple always bragged about but never knew how to turn them into a profit. This could be the beginning of an iWallet app.

New upcoming Iphone 5 features

Iphone 5 Features: What is expected with the new and upcoming iphone 5?
Apple fans are whining about iPhone 4S’ half-fudged Siri, the personal, voice-controlled, intelligent assistant, urging everyone to wonder when the technology monster will unwrap iPhone 5 and what added features it will have.
Rumors on iPhone 5 have become crazy on the Internet, especially after it was reported that Apple is going to nab Israeli flash storage maker Anobit for about $500 million. Naturally, many people are wondering whether this is the reason why iPhone 5 launch got shelved.

Dreams of iPhone fans were crushed when iPhone 5 didn’t get released in October this year and Apple pundits began predicting that iPhone 5 will come in the middle of 2012 – pobably in late spring or early summer.
#1 Siri- better.

#2 Larger screen. Think 4″++

#3 4G LTE Compatibility and World Phone.   Think globally. Act locally.

#5 Quad-core Processor A6 .  Gaming. Video.  More raw power.

#6 NFC (Near Field Communication).  Think radio. Think communication between devices.
IF just a portion of these new features come, the iphone 5 is sure to be a smash.

Iphone 5 Rumors | Iphone 5 | “Think Different” Apple ad campaign revisited

Forbes magazine published a long guest post from ad exec Rob Siltanen, one of the sole people to the creation of Apple’s popular “Think Different” promo campaign that had the company spin around following Steve Jobs’ comeback. In the interview, Siltanen highlights the details of promoting the idea to Jobs and his efforts on the “Here’s to the Crazy Ones” article.
Siltanen had the idea to write the article following the publication of Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography of none other than Steve Jobs, which repeats the claim that states the campaign was basically Jobs idea.
Steve was highly involved with the advertising and every facet of Apple’s business. But he was far from the mastermind behind the renowned launch spot. In fact, he was blatantly harsh on the commercial that would eventually play a pivotal role in helping Apple achieve one of the greatest corporate turnarounds in business history.
Siltanen goes on to describe how he and other representatives of the high-profile TBWA/Chiat/Day advertising firm were surprised that Jobs required them to pitch to win the contract with the then-struggling Apple. In dreaming up concepts to pitch to Jobs, the one that stood out was the “Think Different” tagline paired with photos and videos of famous creative thinkers. Jobs liked the campaign but initially worried that it would appear too egotistical. Within seconds, however, Jobs changed course and brought the firm on board to carry out the idea.

Siltanen used Robin Williams’ speeches from the movie Dead Poets Societyas inspiration for what became “Here’s to the Crazy Ones”. But when it was presented to Jobs in what turned out to eventually be nearly its final form, Jobs initially hated it.
We played the spot once, and when it finished, Jobs said, “It sucks! I hate it! It’s advertising agency ****! I thought you were going to write something like ‘Dead Poets Society!’ This is crap!”
Clow said something like, “Well, I take it you don’t want to see it again.” And Steve continued to go on a rant about how we should get the writers from “Dead Poets Society” or some “real writers” to write something.
Jobs soon his mind again, and the “Think Different” campaign was utilized and they never looked back

iTunes Match now official in the UK

Sign-up now for £21.99 a year

Apple has now officially rolled-out its iTunes Match subscription service in the UK, following 24 hours of confusion surrounding the launch.
iTunes Match appeared briefly to users in the UK, France and Australia on Wednesday before it was quickly pulled, with Apple promising to refund those who'd signed-up.
However, iTunes users in multiple territories are reporting that the iTunes Match tab has returned offering a year's subscription for £21.99 a year.
Not only is the service live but, lo-and-behold, it's actually working, users have told the MacRumors and Macgasm blogs.

Your music on the go

iTunes Match went live in the US last month.
The service scans your hard-drive for music and replaces your tired old MP3s with high-quality 256kbps tracks from iTunes.
Members can then stream their collection from iOS devices, Apple TV and iTunes-enabled Macs and PCs.
Apple hopes the service will keep users in the iTunes ecosystem rather than switching to alternative cloud lockers from Amazon and Google.

Apple iPhone 5 second 'fastest rising' search term on Google

Apple's yet-to-be-released iPhone 5 was the second "fastest rising" search term on Google in 2011, while users were also keen to learn about cookies and copyright.

Google has released its annual Zeitgeist report on the most popular search terms of this year.

The royal wedding in April between Prince William and Kate Middleton was the "fastest rising" search term of 2011, followed by "iPhone 5".

Apple was widely expected to launch the fifth generation of the iPhone in October, but the California technology giant instead launched the iPhone 4S, an update on last year's iPhone 4.

There has been further speculation that the iPhone 5 will follow next summer, so it is likely that the term will also feature highly on next year's Google Zeitgeist report.

Other technology terms in the "fastest rising" list included daily deals service Groupon, which is being investigated by the UK's Office of Fair Trading, and Apple's iPad 2, the tablet computer launched in March.

The full list runs as follows:

1. Royal wedding
2. iPhone 5
3. FIFA 12
4. Groupon
5. iPad 2
6. Ryan Dunn
7. Adele
8. Minecraft
9. Rebecca Black
10. Ed Sheeran

Google's top 10 "fastest rising" searches for consumer electronics or gadgets in 2011 was also led by a rumoured Apple product, the iPod Touch 5G.

The fifth generation of the market-leading multimedia player is expected to launch in March 2012, potentially alongside Apple's hotly-anticipated iPad 3.

Also on the list was the HP TouchPad, the tablet computer given a dramatic price cut following sluggish sales, and the ASUS Transformer, a hybrid between a tablet PC and a laptop that has received rave reviews this year.

The full list runs as follows:

1. iPod Touch 5G
2. HP Touchpad
3. Acer Aspire 5742
4. ASUS Transformer
5. Dell Inspiron Duo
6. Acer Iconia
7. Beats Headphones
8. Epson Printers
9. Netgear Router
10. 32-inch TV

Technology also featured in the 'What is..?' list, covering the most popular questions submitted by users.

This included an interest in internet cookies due to the new guidelines on how websites can use them, along with questions on copyright following various legal efforts to fight online and digital piracy.

The list also featured 'What is iCloud?', referring to the new cloud storage service introduced by Apple for iPhone and iPod users in the autumn.

Apple iPad 3 'to launch in February 2012'

Apple will launch the third generation of the iPad in early 2012, an analyst has claimed.

Citi analyst Richard Gardner cited "several sources" as indicating that the iPad 3 will be officially confirmed by Apple next February.

Business Insider reports Gardiner as saying that the much-anticipated tablet will sport a screen resolution double that of the current iPad 2.

He added that "there do not appear to be any significant technical hurdles remaining" to prevent the launch of the iPad 3.

The claim about screen resolution dovetails with previous reports about the iPad 3, indicating that the product will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, a massive rise on the 1024 x 768 in the current model.

It is thought that this will mean the iPad 3 will be 0.7mm thicker than the iPad 2 due to the need for stronger backlighting technology.

However, the iPad 3 could be up against a considerable competitor next year in the shape of a rumoured 11.6-inch tablet from Samsung, which could offer a whopping 2560 x 1600 resolution.

Meanwhile, Gardiner has also predicted that Apple will sell 12-13 million iPads in the final quarter of 2011, a big increase on the 7.33m sold in the same period in 2010.

iPhone 5 Features & Specifications – The Magnum Opus

The iPhone 5 is a magnum opus without a doubt. It is set to change the way the smartphones play their game. Apple has not released one iota of information about iPhone 5 specs as yet, but with the help of rumors that have surfaced through some very possible claims, we have summarized the entire iPhone 5 phenomena for you. Here’s it:

Rumors are running high all around. Just like it happened when the world awaited the iPhone 4 release, rumors are running about in every website that you could think of. iPhone 5 is already a phenomena that is sure to take the smartphone market by storm. As usual, it’s an Apple product and Apple’s devices have always caused such a huge flutter of activity in the market even before they get released officially.
iPhone 5 features are much touted to change the way smartphones would function. Improved interface, greater Near Field Communications, much better gesture-based controls and such startlingly new technologies are rumored to be figure in the iPhone 5 features. Even if half the news that we hear about iPhone 5 turns out to be true, then we sure have a rocker smartphone in our hands.
iPhone 4 to iPhone 5
So how does the iPhone 5 compare with the iPhone 4? Experts say that software-wise, iPhone 5 is a minor update over iPhone 4. Most notable areas of change are the hardware parts, the processor and the way iPhone 5 lets you sync your work. The iOS is different on both the devices and that is probably as far as it can get. The signal issues that iPhone 4 has would probably be removed totally in the iPhone 5 design – that was one huge problem Apple was facing.
Popular websites that keep us in-tune with iPhone 5 feature rumors and news seem to unanimously agree that the iPhone 5 would boast a slimmer design than the iPhone 4. Being wary of the glass display and the glass back of the iPhone 4 – because of its brittle nature – features of iPhone 5 could very well have an all-metal look with a stronger and stolid display. This might also reduce the chances of the signal problem we found in iPhone 4.
But the details are not in these minor information. The original crux which would attract people is in the details of the processors, the camera, and many other relatively new things that is expected in the iPhone 5 specs. Let’s take a look at each of these clearly and also find out the possibility of their occurrence in the iPhone 5 when it is released.
iPhone 5 Specifications – Part One – the Hardware
Every product that Apple has come out with, has had a very strong sense of elegance. Even the latest iPhone 4 had this very cool look and professionalism. iPhone 5 is said to be thinner, slimmer, stronger and most appealing in terms of size.
All-Metal Body? Perhaps, with the problems faced in the iPhone 4′s display, the glass make is about to go out. The back panel might be metallic, making the iPhone 5 an all-metal phone with a strange rumor about the glass being totally different from that of any smartphone.
The curves are most probably back in the iPhone 5 specs. It might no longer be a close square cut like the one we found in iPhone 4. Also impressive is the fact that iPhone 5 would have a larger display area of about 4 inches.
So far, here are some of the things we have been hearing all too often, to think that they could be true to a large extent:
  • Curved Glass / 3D Display – Okay, the 3D display might be a far fetched idea, but the possibility of the curved glass design might be quite true. Apple recently bought about 300 special glass cutting machines and that was reported by DigiTimes. If that was true, then surely Apple is onto something with its iPhone 5′s new glass display.
  • 8 MP Camera with Dual Flash – Unimaginably for Apple, it has not yet offered 8 MP cameras on its devices while Samsung and HTC have already come out with their own 8 MP cameras already – way too early for Apple. The iPhone 5 would be an answer to this. Or so we think. An 8 MP camera with dual flash on the rear means higher resolution pictures, greater quality and most notably, greater quality in low-light pictures where the red-eye occurs. Of course, we need to keep our fingers crossed for the iPhone 5 specifications to have this.
  • A5 Processor – Of all features of iPhone 5, one of the finest thing we believe is the processor. Apple has finally relieved its A4 processor and brought in a dual-core processor that fires up its iPad 2. If iPad and iPhone 4 had the same processors, then it is quite logical to assume that iPhone 5 and iPad 2 would have the same – the A5 processor dual-core for enhanced performance. This is a very sure rumor as far as we know.
  • More Gesture-based – No Home Button – Oops! No home button? Well, yeah, quite possibily. Apple has moved to improved gesture based controls through its iOS 5. So it is quite possible that the home screen might be dropped for enhanced gesture-controls – one large interface change in iPhone 5 specifications.
  • Storage and RAM – the features of iPhone 5 is more likely to have an improved RAM of 1GB to go with the dual-core processor. The RAM was 512 MB in the iPhone 4. The storage too might have a chance of increase. Some rumors said it was 64GB this time, but there are some people who say that Apple could very well – considering the wide range of devices, the iPhone-PC or iPhone-Mac sync – do away with the internal storage thing!
  • Fire-proof iPhone – Stunned with this iPhone 5 feature?? Well, why not to be… New iPhone 5 is likely to be the fire-proof and the company has organized a patent app for highly developed material which is halogen-free flame retardant. It could be incorporated in the iPhone 5 specifications to build this new iPhone 5 and other Apple products.
  • Wireless Charging- Well… this iPhone 5 specification would give you another break! But you never know the wireless charging is really creating a mass appeal. It could be possible with the inductive wireless charging technology. If you could juice up the battery of iPhone 5 then this will be a big hit. So until iPhone 5 release date comes and the Apple release new smart phone with super cool iPhone 5 features, imagine charging this smartphone without cable.
  • Extended Battery Life – According to the expected iPhone 5 features and specifications, new iPhone 5 would run on the more powerful battery giving extra talk time and stand by time. Since the new additions of the Apple iPhone is going to have lot more advanced features and applications, the battery will be required to sustain this extended utilization.
Part Two – the Software
One thing that has always stunned experts is the way Apple brings changes to its software. It is sometimes very subtle where you expect it to be huge, and hugely stunning where you expect it to be subtle. Most experts feel that after the recently concluded WWDC – where iOS 5 and iCloud were the topics – there could be no great change but for these two, in the iPhone 5 specifications. Well, that may be true to a large extent, but only a final release of the iPhone 5 will tell.
Here’s again a list of things we could be looking for in the iPhone 5 specs.
  • iOS 5 – A brand new phone and a brand new OS. The iOS (formerly known as iPhone OS) featured since the days of the iPhone 2G. These are very popular times of the iOS 4 but that is soon set to change. IOS 5 has been announced officially. The way it works is through gesture-based controls more than button taps. Perhaps that is why people suspect the lack of a home button in the iPhone 5 features. Design-wise too there are quite a number of changes and enhancements in iOS 5 which was released in the WWDC held this June.
  • iCloud – We just had the release of some beta apps with iCloud enabled in them. ICloud is the next big thing according to Apple. It is all about sync and nothing more – sync done right. Usually sync is where you had to connect devices and take further steps – for instance, iTunes. But with iCloud all that work is done with a simple tap of a button – the iCloud button. From within iCloud enabled applications, all you need to do is tap this and your document, photo, contact, bookmark, calendar or whatever gets pushed to all your other Apple devices with the iCloud equipped!
  • HD Video Recording and HDMI Output – In sync with the iOS 5 features, there is a strong possibility that iPhone 5 comes with HDMI output and most certainly with HD video recording. iPhone 4 had HD video recording already and iPhone 5 might either have the same or an enhanced version of it.
  • Gaming on the move – Why just for social networking and business apps? With such iPhone 5 features, gamers won’t get a bit lessen fun as the new iPhone 5 possibly could come with stronger gaming capabilities powered by PowerVR Series6 mobile graphics processing architecture by Imagination Technologies and A5 processor.
  • More Speed – 4G technology, the latest standard in network technology will help to build up the network fourth generation that will give you more speed…more fun on the fly with outstanding iPhone 5 specs!
  • NFC Payment – According to the reports, this NFC (Near Field Communication) technology is under testing and if it comes, then user will be able to make countless payment through scanner. However, according to the ibtimes, the analysts at Jefferies are expecting that this NFC technology will be revealed in the iPhone 5S (probably next version of iPhone 5). Such iPhone 5 features will definitely create waves in the market.
  • App Store- one of the very important and favorite iPhone 5 features… Apps store has always been great stuff. And why not with new iPhone 5 device. The App store of the Apple holds more than 425,000 apps which means… you can maximize your experience with the latest iPhone 5 specs and features.
There has been no official word on iPhone 5 as yet. Not even its existence or development has been hinted at by anyone from Apple. But we all know. That was how it was with iPhone 4 too – of course, we had a prototype leak back then. But still, iPhone 5 is on everyone’s lips. It is just a matter of time before we see the magnum opus from Apple with all its bells and whistles!

iPhone 5 Release Date March 2012: Stronger Prediction

There are quite a lot of things going on within Apple right now – and we all believe that besides iPad 3 and iTV, Apple is seriously working on the next-gen iPhone too. The iPhone 5, which was widely rumored to appear this October, actually didn’t make it. Instead, we had the iPhone 4S.
The iPhone 5 features are said to be completely revolutionary over the iPhone 4 and other previous version of iPhone. Software-wise, though, there seems to be nothing much on offer. With iOS 5, iCloud and Siri making their appearances with iPhone 4S, we can’t really ask for more. Still, there’s no saying with what Apple will come up with, in the next few months.

It’s somewhat touching to note that iPhone 5 was the last iPhone project Steve Jobs worked on, before his demise. The iPhone 5 launch date is still nowhere close, and no one knows really when it could be. Late 2012, for now, looks a safe guess.
There was a rumor that said Jobs disliked the idea of having a 4-inch screen on the iPhone 5 – which made it look more like an Android phone. Customer preferences have changed over the years, and since the introduction of various large-screen Android smartphones, people are actually liking it. May be iPhone 5 designers are going for the larger-screen now!
Processor
This is one very possible change. The A6 processor is the next-gen processor on the Apple’s line-up. The iPad 3 and the iPhone 5 are both rumored to incorporate this processor – which should bring a huge boost to the apps and the iOS running on the iPhone 5.
Form-factor
The iPhone 5 features would also, ideally, include 4G and Near-field communication facilities. Not just this, but the iPhone 5 features might also contain a change in the form-factor. What exactly is not clear, but it could very well mean that the overall experience of an iPhone is going to change radically.
The iPhone 5 launch date was first rumored to be late 2012. Considering some reports, it looks like it could come out before. It depends on various other rumored releases too – like the iPad 3, whose references have been found in the iOS 5.1 beta (along with iPhone 5).

iPad 3 & iPhone 5 Release Date Potential Details – Rumor Mill

No, this is not one more iPhone 5 release date speculation that should be rejected summarily. Popular Apple news blog iLounge just reported that one of their most reliable sources has spoken about two of the most important gadgets that we might be looking forward to.
Yes, the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3 release date are being talked about here. The blurb talks about certain design changes in the iPad 3, on the iPhone 5 – and on the probable release date for both the gadgets. The iPhone 5 release date – as yet unconfirmed – seems to be the summer of 2012. Of course, what this clearly indicates is that even though we heard news about iPhone 5 being dropped for iPhone 4S, it is still on the works and could be out soon.

The iPad 3 – rumored to be a tad thicker than its predecessor by 0.7mm – is marked for a March release – although the same report predicts that it could go on display this January – mere two months from now. The iPad 3 would be coming out with a very larger resolution on the 9.7-inch screen. The thickness is due to the dual-LED bar system for the resolution enhancement.
As regards the iPhone 5 release date and specs, it looks like all the rumors about tear-shaped, futuristic and all that stuff about the iPhone 5 design is not going to come true. We heard from Wall Street Journal sometime back that the iPhone 5 prototype that was tested during the time of Steve Jobs had a 4-inch display. The same seems to be retained on the iPhone 5 about to be released soon.
We’ve got one doubt though. If the iPhone 5 – as reported by iLounge – is still in the engineering phase, we suspect it to be out by the summer next year. It would probably take a longer time to get them to the production phase and then release it to the public. But let’s wait. We’ll need more solid information and confirmation about these things, as always!
The battery issue, which is yet to be rectified on iPhone 4S, seems to have bugged the iPhone 5 prototypes too. So we hope they take their time and create something that does not cause fast draining of the battery!
