iPhone 5 to Feature Dual Core Processors and 16:9 Resolution?

A German rumor on iPhone 5 features has said that Apple is testing on some 720p resolution display for its next-gen iPhone.

Well, it would have been all fine and good if it had stopped at that, but it reads that besides a 1280x720p resolution, there’s also some 1440×800 resolution being tested! That’s not a 16:9 widescreen resolution so don’t even try to guess what it is. CultOfMac thinks it might be a typo (1440×900 is a perfect 16:9 ratio).

The number ratio intricacies apart, we think this is just getting a bit farther for Apple. The iPhones for now have a 3:2 ratio and with Retina display on board, there is just no competitor who has gotten this far, as yet. The greater resolutions on other smartphones – notably Samsung Galaxy Ace – with the Super AMOLED display do not show much of a difference – but the fact is Retina Display out-does every other smartphone display on the market for now.

So what does an iPhone 5 specs sheet having a 720p resolution mean? Greater video quality? Better FaceTime? Well, that depends on how far your idea of quality gets to.

For us, the whole idea of an iPhone 5 feature set having a 720p video resolution is amazing for gamers and high-time video watchers. Other than that, what’s most impressive about the rumor on iPhone 5 is the processor (A6) and the 16:9 resolution.

A 16:9 resolution might actually be great – if not greatest. It will give you a wider screen to work with – but as to the dimensions of the iPhone 5 (under such a circumstance), it’s hard to say.

However, with the processors, there’s a huge debate going on.

First it was stated that the iPhone 5, and the iPad 3 (for that matter) would be going with the A6-processors. Apple iPhone 4S and iPad 2 have come with the A5, which marks a very strong improvement over the other processors that the iDevices have. Also, of what kind the A6 would be is doubtful.

That’s when the rumor says it could be quad-core! There are dual-core processors already on-board for Android systems. Looks like a CPU-race is being held, should the report go true.

For now, a recent report said the iPhone 4S was the fastest smartphone in the market as yet.

As to the iPhone 5 release date, it’s anybody’s guess. 2012, March, Summer, Late 2012, Pre-september… the options are just countless. A March 2012 looks promising indeed.
